Weather was the topic - both inside and outside - of the regular Wednesday noon meeting of the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary Club. Steve Schwaller presented the program about winter weather as it started to snow again.

Steve, News Director at KUOO, talked to the club about the recent Christmas storm and the current system coming through the lakes area this past week. The Christmas storm was one with one of the highest moisture contents of all time. KUOO, through a partnership with the National Weather Service, check snow core samples each week and the recent storm left snow cores with 4.5" - 5" liquid moisture. Steve fielded many questions from the group including his predictions for the spring. He thought it was too early to tell yet if we would have flooding this spring. Depends on the amount of moisture we get through the remainder of January and February. He also said that long range models show that we should be out of this extreme weather pattern soon and should see a warm up by next week. The reason for the col weather pattern is that a large high pressure system has been "parked" over the Hudson and thus has pushed systems further south than normal.
