The Iowa Great Lakes Rotary car on Smith’s Bay has finally disappeared below the blue waters of West Lake Okoboji.  Official time was 3:17 P.M. on April 26, 2018 which is two months later than the car’s plunge in February 2017.

Our Rotary Car broke ice and settled ~7 feet to the bottom of Smiths Bay.  Our winner, Kyle Jungers from the twin cities.  Carey has contacted him with congratulations. Carey reports he was very surprised and excited.

Bob Kirschbaum removed the car the same day at 6:30 PM.  Bob's crew did all of the diving and removal...safely and to perfection.  Leo removed the clock, which worked as Leo designed.  President Brodie and Leo both verified 3:17 PM.  A picture of the clock and time can be seen on ExploreOkoboji.com

Congratulations to all of you for your participation in the this years car-drop.  We sold all 720 tickets, a record!!  With the late spring coupled with each of your efforts, we met our club goal.  All to the benefit of our community service and youth exchange program commitments.

Can't wait until next year.

Best,
Tom

And From Carey Wilkens:

The $1,000 check for the winning time will be presented to Kyle Jungers, a Quad-City resident, who purchased his ticket while visiting the Iowa Great Lakes last fall.

Iowa Great Lakes Rotary expresses their appreciation and thanks to Bob Kirshbaum and his divers for their effort in retrieving the vehicle late Thursday afternoon.

Rotary president, Tom Brodie, praised the efforts of Rotary club members, Dry Dock, The Hutt and Okoboji Summer Theatre for their support and effort which benefit the club’s community service and youth exchange programs.
