The first speaker of the new year will be Katy Burke on E-cigarettes.  The meeting will be held on Jan 8, 2020 at noon.  Katy Burke is a Public Health Educator at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, IA. As a native to the Iowa Great Lakes, she is excited to work with the tobacco prevention and cessation grant, providing programming, resources, and policy support for Dickinson, Clay, Emmet, and Palo Alto counties. Katy is also currently pursuing her Master of Science of Education in Learning Design and Technology from Purdue University, with an anticipated graduation date of May 2020. Before returning to the area, she worked in a variety of educational roles in central Iowa, Oregon, and Brazil.
 
Acknowledging the teen vaping epidemic, as well as the surge of illnesses linked to e-cigarette usage, this week’s presentation is titled “E-Cigarettes: Health Risks & Resources.” It will focus on vaping devices, adverse health effects, Tobacco Free Nicotine Free policy support, and cessation resources.
