John Rahn and Val Newhouse from Iowa Lakes Community College spoke to Rotary on Wednesday, August 4 about enrollment, class offerings and the upcoming Plant Fund Property Tax Levy.

After a DVD about the college itself, John and Val made comments about increased enrollment numbers, new programs at the college and the upcoming renewal of the Plant Fund Property Tax Levy. Iowa law allows community college boards to ask the voters for a 10-year approval of a property tax levy for purchase of grounds, construction of buildings, payment of debts for contruction and purchase of buildings and equipment for buildings, aquisition of libraries, paying utilities and maintaining remodeling, improving or expanding the community college.

The current levy expires in 2012. The board will ask voters to renew their approval in 2010 at the Special Community College Election on September 14. This is a continuation of a current levy, not an increase. The election requires a simple majority to pass. For more information about the levy details, visit www.iowalakesplantfundlevy.com.
