Erik Rowley, son of Rotarian Dave Rowley, gave a presentation to the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary Club on Wednesday, July 7 about his study trip to Xicotepec De Juarez, Mexico.

Erik, a student at the University of Iowa, took part in a study trip to Xicotepec De Juarez, Mexico, as a result of a partnership between the University of Iowa, Iowa State and Rotarians in District 6000. The trip consisted of students from various disciplines - engineering, urban & regional planning, pharmacy, finance and nursing - who each worked on projects in this particular region of Mexico. Xicotepec is located approximately 100 miles northeast of Mexico City. An engineering major, Erik was involved in creating an economic development plan for the area. He shared highlights of the final plan presented to economic leaders and government officials in Mexico, which included primary and secondary research, the identification of economic challenges and opportunities and tactics for moving forward.
