Mike Hawkins, DNR Fisheries Biologist, provided an insightful update on the status of curlyleaf pondweed in the Iowa Great Lakes region.  Mike noted the use of the herbicide Aquathol K to control of the pondweed will be expanded to 60 acres this year.   The use of herbicides is significantly cheaper than using a "harvester" apparatus to cut the pondweed.  The herbicide was applied earlier this spring and water quality testing was conducted to ensure that chemicals were not moving into areas used for drinking water.
