Beth Samuelson of Lakes Regional Healthcare presented a program at Rotary on Wednesday, March 2 on dietary needs and the proper reading of food labels. Beth is a Registered Dietician who stressed that labels can be misleading yet quite informative. When reading a food label, one should look at the serving size and compare it to the servings per container. The percent of daily values at bottom of label should be your guide to help you evaluate how a particular food fits into your daily meal plan. She also suggested searching for low-sodium foods and look for foods that are low in saturated fat and trans fats. Her presentation was followed up with a question and answer session. Thanks to Beth and the LRHC for the helpful program!
