The Iowa Great Lakes Rotary Club welcomed Jim Dillon, Director of Energy Efficiency for Black Hills Energy to their regular meeting, Wednesday, April 28.

Jim informed the club of the many ways to save energy throughout our homes and how to increase efficiency. The average home spends about $2,200 a year in energy costs. 45% of that figure is heat loss due to inadequate insulation and other factors. Black Hills Energy offers rebates and incentives to their consumers both residential and business. One of these incentives is a Free Home Energy Audit valued at $150. They also offer big rebates on certain appliances.

His main energy saving request was to get rid of your green and gold refrigerators which are huge energy wasters. Other ways to save money on your home's energy is through new shower heads, lightbulbs, and washing your laundry in cold water.
