Scott Jones, Regional Customer Service Manager for Alliant Energy, spoke to Rotary at its regualr noon meeting on Wednesday, April 7.

Scott spoke about the business model of Alliant Energy, price drivers and the current rate case before the Iowa utilities board. He talked about electricity as the 2nd most capital intensive industry in the world (after railroad). Alliant has an obligation to serve every customer who request power. The infrastructure costs and clean air/environmental requirements affect rates - a percentage of their power source needs to come from "green" sources which is the reason that have invested in a wind farm. Scott then went through the rate case and how customers' bills will be affected.
