Congratulations to Alis Collin for being accepted into the prestigious United World College. Alis was also granted a full-ride scholarship to attend. Representing her home country of France, Alis interviewed in Paris France, on March 2 & 3, 2019 along with 26 other high school students. Each student was interviewed extensively by the faculty and was required to present to a large audience on a subject of their choice with the intent to produce discussion and debate. Alis was selected number 1 of the 27 total students overall. The interview faculty consisted of at least a dozen United World College faculty from around the world.
UWC is a global educational movement with the mission to "make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future." The two year academic program has 17 campuses around the world providing 16-19 year old students an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. The IB Diploma Program aims "to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically."
Alis will be studying at her preferred choice of UWC Robert Bosch College in Freiburg, Germany. Alis Collin is currently studying her Junior year at Okoboji High School through the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary Club and Rotary International. Through the Rotary Youth Exchange program, over 8,000 high school students from around the world spend an academic year in another county to learn a new language, discover another culture, and truly become global citizens. Okoboji High School Junior Seattle Sweeney is Iowa Great Lakes Rotary Club’s outbound student this year studying in Scheessel, Germany.
Rotary International requires the student to live with 3 host families in the community, divided equally during the student’s academic year. Host parents for Alis include Allison and Dan Antoine, Carry and Kiley Miller, and Mona and Steve Sweeney. Alis’ is the daughter of Frederic and Nilgun Collin of Bourg en Bresse France. She has a younger sister Celine.
