Club Historian Chuck Skogerboe
On Wednesday September 7, our own Chuck Skogerboe gave a history of The Iowa Great Lakes Rotary Club. He is our longest standing member having joined the club in 1972.  Our club was formed in 1938 with 18 charter members including Dr. Don Rodawig, Senior who was the president of the club.  They met every week at the Antler's Hotel.  This building still stands on the corner of Hill and 19th Street in downtown Spirt Lake. The club held their meetings at a variety of different locations over the years. In 1945, the club sponsored the local Boy Scout troop. Chuck shared the "Flag exchange" which used to be a big deal; exchanging club flags while visiting other Rotary groups. The first female joined our club in 1990; Carol Kaiser, who also is the wife of our past president Robb Kaiser! Current Member, Mary Christensen was our first female president and also the first female  Paul Harris Fellow.  Over the years, our club has sponsored and supported many fundraisers and projects to better our community. If you have a question about our club's history, it's likely Chuck will be able to answer it for you!  Thanks Chuck for the great presentation!
