Okoboji Foundation Shares Information with Rotary

Mary Freiborg, President of the Okoboji Foundation, shared about Youth in Philanthropy and the organization of the Okoboji Foundatio with Rotary at noon on Wednesday, December 7.
Mary shared information about the three ways to give to the Foundation - (1) Pooled Investment Endowment, (2) Donor Advised Fund, and (3) Youth in Philanthropy. Youth in Philanthropy is a new initiative with the Foundation this year. Its purpose is to inspire high school students to identify community needs and build a sense of social responsibility by funding grants to send Ripple of Good throughout the lakes community. The Youth Council consists of 22 students from Okoboji and Spirit Lake High Schools.
The Youth Council will use peer input from a Youth Assessment and adult input from a Donor Survey as they review, score, and recommend funding for Okoboji Foundation Grants to nonprofit organizations. Through tours of other area nonprofits, the Foundation will introduce the next generation to the role philanthropy plays and the vital difference it makes in this one-of-a kind place.
