LRH Speaks to Rotary About Paramedic Service
Posted by Kathryn Fahy
Deanne Garland and Scott Greer from the Lakes Regional Hospital paramedic crew spoke to Rotary at the regular meeting on Wednesday, March 3.
Deanne and Scott are both full-time paramedics and have been partners on the ambulance crew for eleven years. Deanne has worked as a paramedic for 12 years and Scott for 20 years.
Scott and Deanne shared what typically happens when someone calls 911 - starting with the call being routed through the county communications center through when the emergency personnel arrive. Scott stresses the importance of giving complete information when calling 911 - make sure you give your name, address, what the mediccal emergency is, if the person is breathing or not and always give a call back number.
Both Scott and Deanne shared the equipment they carry in the ambulance for various types of emergencies and said the ambulance is basically a small ER on wheels. They both shared their background and how they got into the profession. LRH currently has 8 full-time medics and a pool of 9 casual staff when needed. Four are on duty at all times - 2 on active duty and 2 on call.
