Emily Dalen, coordinator of 37 youth at First Lutheran Church with Group Cares, spoke to the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary on September 1. The group, who participates in service projects annually, spent a week of hope in Denver, Colorado, this year.

Students who attend the week-long service project had the opportunity to work with a variety of projects, including: - landscaping and cleaning assisted living home for bipolar and schizophrenia individuals - painting at Lost and Found, a place for troubled teens and families to get back on their feet - working at Feeding Many, an orchard and garden that planst fruits and vegetables to take to market where families in need can come get food for free - helped a lady whose husband passes away but she didn't want the youth to help her, but rather help a friend of hers who was diagnosed with melanoma - worked with Compa, Compassion Ministries, who collect bad food, go through it and repackage the usable food for those in need
