Stacy Rosemore, Tourism Director, and Erin Roe, Chamber Program Director, shared an update at the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary noon meeting held March 25. They also shared information about the 27th Annual Easter Seals Walleye Weekend to be held  May 2-3.

Walleye Weekend is a 2-day fishing tournament that annually has about 1600 participants trying to catch a tagged walleye worth $10,000. All registration fees go to the Easter Seals.

Erin and Stacy also spoke about the structure of their organization. The Iowa Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce is the umbrella organization. Okoboji Tourism and Spirit Lake Mainsail fall under that organization and its primary goal of promoting and planning events that are tourism and business based. The Chamber began in 1973 and today is lead by Executive Vice President Tom Kuhlman.

Some of the legislative matters that the group is currently keeping an eye on are the school start date debate and the state tourism budget. The group is also part of the Western Iowa Tourism Group so it is able to spend dollars more wisely by cooping ads in larger publications.
